Because of it's magnificence the Lauterbrunnental is often compared to Rivendell from The Lord of the Rings, as both places have a narrow strip of land surrounded by two nearly vertical cliffs. And over the cliffs you will find several waterfalls. This is one of the things that makes it magical.

1. Jungfraujoch - the top of Europe
From Lauterbrunnen you can go by train and all the way up to the glacier. Here you will find an ice palace and an amazing view.

2. Schilthorn - on the trail of James Bond
Take the cable cars 2980 m. up to the revolving restaurant, Piz Gloria. Here you can enjoy the view of 40 mountain peaks and 20 glaciers.
TIP: In winter, buy a ski-pass for Mürren site or for the Jungfrau Region, then you can go all the way up to Schilthorn.

3. A valley of waterfalls
There are 72 waterfalls in the Lauterbrunnen Valley, the most famous being the Staubbach Falls. With it's almost 300 metres it is one of the highest free-falling waterfalls in Europe. Also a must see is Trümmelbach falls.

4. Hiking and mountain biking
Lauterbrunnen is the perfect area for experiencing nature. There are hiking and mountain bike trails for all ages and levels of fitness - and all trails are clearly marked, so you can enjoy exploring the mountains.

5. Skiing, snowboarding and sledging
The Jungfrau region is perfect for winter activities. And Lauterbrunnen is the ideal starting point for excursions as there are trains and cable cars connecting the valley to both sides of the mountains.
